The new Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Udyam portal is a self-declaration and cost-free platform for entrepreneurs to get their enterprises registered. The Udyam portal is amalgamated with the Income Tax and GSTIN systems and automatically pulls PAN and GST-linked investment details.

The entrepreneurs require only the Aadhaar number for their registration and all the MSMEs will be given a certificate with a permanent registration number. A QR code will be present on the certificate which can access details about the enterprise from the portal.

The MSME Udyam portal registration is a simple and a one-time process and can be done only through Udyam portal and single window systems.

Here's how small businesses can register on the MSME Udyam portal:

The proprietorship firms must have the Aadhaar number of the owner for MSME registration. The Aadhaar number of the managing partner must be present in the case of a partnership firm and in the case of a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) business, it must be that of a karta.

These simple steps can be followed to register an enterprise on the MSME Udyam portal:

Step 1: You need the official website of MSME i.e.udyamregistration.gov.in. You must check for the national emblem on the left corner of the website and there must be MSME ministry written beside it.

Step 2: To get the registration form, click on 'New registration' on the homepage. Now, enter the concerned 'Aadhaar Number' and 'Name of the Entrepreneur'.

Step 3: Click on 'Validate and Generate OTP' and enter the required details for the PAN verification step.

Step 4: Now, the Udyam registration box will appear, and you will be asked to fill in all the details.

Step 5: Once the registration is done, a 'Thank You' message will be received with the registration number starting with 'UDYAM'.

If your business is involved in two activities, then just one Udyam registration is needed. The same has to be specified in the same registration. According to Section 27 of the CGST Act, all intentionally misrepresented self-declared facts and figures are liable to penalty.
