Description

Roughly 85% of the world's population have one leg that’s longer than the other, otherwise known as Limb Length Discrepancy (LLD). Differences in limb length can vary, from a diminutive difference, to a difference of multiple inches between legs, which throws off the entire body's balance and gait. Serious LLD causes asymmetric deformities that can create pain, injury, biomechanical problems and incorrect gait patterns. Common symptoms of LLD are knee pain, foot pain, nerve pain in legs, lower back pain, poor balance, finding it uncomfortable to stand and habitually leaning on one leg to stand. When a bone has been shifted due to an injury/surgery or when a bone does not mature properly, this can create LLD. So a person with LLD must compensate for this asymmetrical and abnormal body structure, trying to reach equilibrium and therefore shifting their balance, flexing a knee, etc., which makes them vulnerable to injury, pain or biomechanical defects. If you believe you have LLD, please see your doctor. SHOE RECOMMENDATIONS: If the difference between the limb length is extremely small, then chances are there won’t be any biomechanical or painful repercussions. If the limb length difference is noticeable but under 3/8 of an inch, the sufferer can wear Extra Extra Depth Shoes because they have insoles that can be removed to even out a person with minor LLD. However, if the person suffering from LLD has a limb length difference of more than 3/8 of an inch, they are recommended to get their shoes modified. A lift will have to be inserted in their shoes' outsoles, to even our their legs and body
